the apple in question

I ate the perfect apple: Skin the color of dried blood; hard, sweet, tart flesh, the color of old ivory. The Zen Apple, in Japanese, Zen no ringo. It was the very definition of "apple". I had to stop what I was doing and be in that perfect moment, when you ask only one thing, it is granted and fully realized, and you are happy to be where and who you are. It doesn't have to last forever, or fix your world, or change the way of things. It's just good to know that sometimes the simplest things are the best things...and somehow that makes all the crap easier to ignore.

  1. Must have been one hell of an apple. I wonder if that's the kind Eve found and wanted to share.
